For the Love of Surge Protectors!

I just wanted to throw out a quick post to reiterate some things I said in a previous entry:

Go get yourself "green" or energy saving surge protectors.

Tips:
The energy savings on these things is really amazing.
When you purchase one - make sure you get one that has a few "always on" outlets.  I have a few of the APC Power Saving Surge Arrest units and they are great.  I also have a very nice Belkin unit on my main PC.
For me it shaved about $7-$8 / month.  That's pretty good for not doing anything other than changing the surge protector.

I'll give you two common setups:

1. PC plugged into the "Main" outlet and all other accessories but the printer / fax & desk lamp plugged into the uncontrolled outlets.

2. TV plugged into the "Master" outlet and Roku into one the uncontrolled outlets.  PS3, Xbox 360, surround sound, WII, & DVR plugged into the controlled outlets. NOTE: Always plug a cable receiver into the uncontrolled outlets.

I realize anyone that can follow instructions doesn't really need any of that information but, I made a fair amount of $ back in the day hooking up surround sounds and all you have to do is follow the instructions...
